Create a Project

When you create a project, you configure a few settings and specify the devices that the vehicle system consists of. The following list describes prerequisites for creating a CIT project:

  • Know the node ID(s) of the vehicle system’s device(s).

  • Make sure all devices on the CAN bus are configured with identical baud rates.

  • Have the device profile(s) you’ll use for the project.

Take the following steps to create a CIT project:

  1. Go to Launchpad.

  2. If CIT is connected to the CAN bus, disconnect it.

  3. Select Project » New.

  4. Perform the following steps in the New Project dialog.

    1. Click the icon above the Vehicle Name field that best matches your vehicle system.

      Note: For information on adding custom vehicle icons, see the CIT manual, which you can access by selecting Help » View Help.

    2. Specify the Vehicle Name.

    3. If you would like CIT to automatically connect to the CAN bus when the project is open, select the Auto Connect checkbox.

      CAUTION: Do not clear the Enable CANopen check box.

    4. From the CAN Baud Rate dropdown, select one of the following:

      • The baud rate for the CAN bus.

      • AUTO to have CIT detect the CAN bus’s baud rate.

  5. Take the following steps for each device that the vehicle system will consist of:

    1. Click .

    2. Specify the Device Name.

    3. Select the Node ID from the Node dropdown.

    4. Specify the device profile by taking one of the following steps:

      • If the device profile has already been added to the device profile library, select the profile from the Device dropdown.

      • Otherwise, click the Install Device Profile button, then navigate to and select the device profile.



    5. Click OK to close the Select Device dialog.

    6. Repeat step 5 for each device to be added.

  6. Once you have finished adding devices, click OK in the System Full Menu dialog. CIT prompts you to save the project file.

  7. Enter the project’s filename and select the subdirectory that will contain the project file, then click . CIT displays device nodes representing the devices that were added to the project.
