VCL Studio shows an error icon and won't open or create a project

Some users may encounter a warning icon is also displayed in Launchpad.

If the user attempts to launch VCL studio in this state, they will encounter this error

This state can be caused by one of two things:
 * The project was created by scanning the bus. When this is done, CIT may or may not match a device on the bus with a device profile in the device profile in the library. In the event that it does not match one, the created device will not have VCL definitions, and therefore cannot be used to build VCL.
 * A known issue where the VCL definitions are discarded or corrupted by CIT. The solution to the issue is to reload the device profile for the node in question.

The solution in both cases is to Launch the project explorer and click the "Reload Device Profile" button.

If the project was scanned and there is still no matching device profile in the library, the problem can be resolved by using the "Edit Device" button to assign a device profile to the node, either by selecting one from the device profile library (A),  or by installing one to the device profile library.

Note: For CIT versions earlier than 1.5.1, some users will not see the "Reload Device Profile" button and will have to use the "Edit Device" button to select a different device profile, and then switch back to the original device profile.
